There was a rapid decline in numbers, then the numbers rose again rapidly, then steadied, then there is a gradual decline.
I would not exactly call that fucked, maybe people are a little more concerned about how they are going to feed themselves than about something that happened in 2001.

I could understand why it would go down.

A lot of time has passed, those who were looking for answers have probably found them and don't care anymore.

The old regime is leaving the center of power change, so others could be moving on also.

But not to worry as I am sure the govt. will give us a new one to focus our attention on.
