Americans have forgotten that we began as revolutionaries. We have become weak and lazy. Addicted to comfort.
Peope will have a government as good as they demand or a government as bad as they will tolerate. People are tolerating some really bad government. It surprises me that it is that way all around the world. I believe people have traded their freedom for comfort in many cases.
From an old movie, way ahead of it's time, Rollerball (1975):
In a futuristic society where corporations have replaced countries, the violent game of Rollerball is used to control the populace by demonstrating the futility of individuality. However, one player, Jonathan E., rises to the top, and fights for his personal freedom and threatens the corporate control.

Ella: But comfort is freedom. The entire history of civilization is a struggle against poverty and need.
Jonathan E.: No, that's not it. That's never been it. I mean, them privileges just buy us off.
