1 Timothy 6:3-10

Love of Money

3 If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching,

4 he is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions 5 and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.

6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 9 People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

Now, if I was a spiritual person, I would say that sounded a little like karma. "pierced themselves with many griefs"..

There is a quote missing from verse 5; "from such withdraw thyself". Which I think is important to the structure of this passage.

I think your right thats the most important part, religious people always quote the scriptures and never follow what they read, just twist it to fit their own agendas.

I only have time to check a couple of references. The New American Standard Bible reads similar to what is posted here.

The King James Bible (my favorite) does include the missing "from such withdraw thyself".

When I made the post I was using the on-line ebible.com. There is another site that offers all versions of the Bible.

I see I will have to check multiple references before posting next time.

I still think the passage is relevant to today and I plan on researching the difference just to satisfy my own curiousity. I have a really old Bible about a foot thick that is full of research, facts, etc.

It just goes to show how over time things get edited and forgotten, or other things added.
In another 1000 years I wonder what the bible book will look like?

When they found the Dead Sea scrolls in the late 40's early 50's the books found were virtually identical to what is in the modern day Bible.

That might be partially true, but they found a lot of scrolls not just the few they picked and chose from and hid the rest in vatican vault. Thats a whole other story in this great farce.
