A uniquely Scottish documentary that brings together Oscar, Turner prize and Bafta winners to look at Scotland through the prism of human rights.

Marking the 60th anniversary of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, filmmakers and artists such as Tilda Swinton, Irvine Welsh and Douglas Gordon each tackle a 'new commandment'.

Exploring such issues as torture, slavery, or the freedoms of thought and assembly, the resulting film is a powerful, passionate and surprisingly humorous artistic collaboration that gives intimate meaning to human rights in Scotland.
The world premiere of The New Ten Commandments was this year at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Those standing up for human rights in Scotland appearing in the different chapters of the programme include -
  • Peter Dow's republican protest against the Queen at Holyrood
  • Aamer Anwar, lawyer, defending a contempt of court charge
  • Jim Swire, campaigning on Lockerbie Pan Am flight 103 bombing
  • Anti-slavery-sex-trafficking, Suicides-concerned and Asylum-seekers campaigners
Also featuring
  • Kenny Richey liberated from death-row. Scotland's 20 years he missed
  • Enhanced interrogation techniques - the sheep's perspective
  • A narrated comic about a man who liked to ride his bike in private
  • Thespian musings
Follow the count-down to the TV broadcast of The New Ten Commandments on Scottish Republican News.

BBC 2 Scotland is also broadcast by Sky Satellite TV on channel 990 - so there is an opportunity for some of those in the rest of Britain to see the programme too.

Cool Scottish republican socialist Peter Dow, author and protester

The 'Right to Freedom of Assembly' chapter (directed by David Graham Scott) of 'The New Ten Commandments' which profiled Scottish republican socialist author and protester Peter Dow (that's me ) which featured my protest against the Queen at the Scottish Parliament, Holyrood, Edinburgh is now available for download from Scottish Republican News.

Perhaps for a limited time only, this chapter in which I star can be seen on YouTube too, entitled 'Scottish republican socialist Peter Dow, author and protester'.
