Default Question of Copyright

I've prepared a written article of a video presentation almost word for word in my own notebook, and wanted to post the text on to this site but wasn't sure if it would be in violation of copyright of the video owner. The article was a word for word script of a presentation on youtube some time ago and is about two pages in length.

To start off with, I'm not sure of the answer but here are a few things that I would do.

First, what copyright issues does the film have? Some allow people to freely copy and distribute - this will probably mean that you can provide a transcript freely.

Can you contact the film maker and ask for their permission (pointing out that the transcript will be free and therefore you are not making a profit)?

Linking the transcript to the original source and making it obvious that the work itself isn't yours would also be a good idea (although you have done the work of typing it all out).

Sorry that this isn't quite the answer that you were probably hoping for but I hope you do get a clear answer on what to do.

Good luck!

Hello, Regina,

I will post the video link in the Environmental Issues page with my short article entitled Traditional Lightbulbs Ban minus any script.

I say you should be fine mate, like Regina said just include a link to the original / copyright notices. Post away, looking forward to reading it.

If anything I would imagine whoever made the video would be grateful for someone taking on such a massive task, afterall they will also benefit from it.

That's a nice thing of you to do Stuart.
