Our exclusive story on Britain's first virtual divorce has been picked up by media around the world.

Pundits have labelled the story a statement on modern life as people worry about where the craze for the virtual internet world called Second Life will lead.

We told how Second Life fans Amy Taylor and David Pollard's three-year marriage had come to an end after she caught him cheating with a female player in the game.


The couple married in real life at a registry office in St Austell, Cornwall. But their wedding in the online game was a far more lavish, Beckham-esque affair.


In real life, David is an unemployed 40-year-old who feels comfortable in tracksuit bottoms.


It is in stark contrast to his 3D animated character in Second Life. Dave Barmy, as he calls his avatar, lives in a luxury villa, is 6ft 4in tall, weighs 13 stone, and sports a sharp grey suit and sunglasses.

Amy's character, Laura Skye, is 6ft tall and weighs eight stone.


Their real-life marriage came to an end when Amy caught David on his computer and could see his character having sex with an escort girl in the game.


David has now hooked up with a female character called Modesty McDonnell. He has married Modesty in the game. And is engaged to the American woman who plays her in real life - even though they have never met.


But speaking of the end of his real life marriage, through his avatar, Amy's ex-husband said: "I don't think I was doing anything wrong."

He said the problem was their real life relationship. "Amy never did anything around the house," he added. "If I wanted to spend time with her I had to ask - but it was always too much trouble for her to come off the game to spend time with me."
