Vodka Appreciation Thread
I can't get enough of this wonderful libation, whether straight over ice or mixed in a cocktail. Whoever invented this delectable spirit should definitely have their face on money, or at the least a holiday named for them.
Whats your favorite brand?

I'll have to try that if I can find it in the states. I think to date the best Irish Whiskey I've tasted would be Red Breast.

My palate says single malt scotch, but my wallet says vodka. I like mine 2 parts vodka and one part tonic. I can do with or without the lime.

Alas I am in the same boat as you. When in the liquor store I like to pour over the single malt section like a kid in a candy store. The MaCallen 18, The Balvenie single barrel, Talisker 15 from the isle of Skye - but I usually end up leaving with a bottle of Tito's Handmade Vodka distilled in Austin Texas. (which I highly recommend by the way).

I don't think I have seen the Tito's but will keep an eye open. I have found that Dalmore and Oban single malt scotch, especially Oban, suit my taste and is somewhat affordable for special occasions. I have a friend that swears by Dewar's White Label, but I think it is swill. I have found no blended scotch I like. Another single malt I tried and wish I had not was Lagavulin; it's like drinking water out of an ashtray. Way to much smoke for me.
I bet our friends in the UK can get single malt scotch at very affordable prices.

That really depends where you shop, if you go to Lidl you can get a bottle of single malt for about £12, but it is pretty rough but for a decent bottle the price range starts at about £20 and that can be on special offer.
So really despite the stuff being made over here it really isn't that cheap.
Or alternatively you can head up to the highlands and go on a tour of the distilleries and get given freebies from girls dressed in tartan outfits that look like air hostesses.
 hic.
 ah swooon.....

Lagavulin much like it's twin Laphroaig are both Islay malts and considered to be "peat monsters" that is they have that heavy smokey flavor due to the freshly germinated barley being dried by burning peat - not for everyone. The Oban on the other hand which is a highland malt is one of my absolute favorites but unfortunately it retails above the acceptable monetary limit I'm allowed to spend per previous negotiations with my wife. (about 80 dollars American for a 750ML.)

You are being robbed. Oban goes for about $50 for a 750ml here. Dalmore around $30.
