Default Who is benefiting from the economic crisis

With all the conspiracy theories floating about of late, about elite groups attemting to create a Orwell-esque state I cannot shake the feeling that this looming economic depression is being pushed by certain groups for their own personal profit (as if a repeat of the process used in the 30's to centralise power into an even smaller group)
Does anyone on here know who the main groups / men behind the cutain profiting from this are?

Hi Cleef,
Now this is an interesting take on the situation that I ran across which was posted on the Google financial forum.
Start at the top and work your way down.

DAVID CAMERON is rightly being hurt because of his association with the short-selling hedge fund men who profit from collapse. Sadly, Gordon Brown has brought these moneylenders into Labour's temple as well.

Short-selling hedge fund boss Paul Myners is a big Labour donor. Worse, under Labour, the short sellers have been put in charge of our schools.

Labour's academy schools programme hands control of schools to businessmen on the assumption that the City knows best, an assumption that looks a little shaky now.

One group of financiers put together a charity called Absolute Return For Kids (ARK) to take over schools and run them with all the wisdom of a hedge fund manager.

With Labour backing, ARK now operates schools from Brixton to Birmingham.

Its board includes Paul Marshall and Ian Wace. Together, they run hedge fund Marshall Wace.

In June and July, the Financial Services Authority ruled that hedge funds must admit when they are "shorting" financial firms - that is, betting on their failure.

Marshall Wace admits that it has been placing multimillion-pound bets against HBOS and Bradford & Bingley.

The collapse of these two banks has cost the public millions and may send us into recession, but Marshall and Wace made massive profits.

They can now teach their values to our children.
