Most citizens within the Commonwealth understand at an intrinsic level that keeping workers as slaves is wrought with danger. The reason is simple, we’ve been there before and it doesn’t work. The Westminster System is a system that enables the complicated task of allowing its citizens equal voices in relation to issues that affect them. It works, people have accepted that for centuries
Countries are now re-joining the commonwealth in a sense, who do you think most Canadians or Australians prefer to be globally affiliated with? The Commonwealth of Nations, the United Nations or The Bush Administration’s Brave New USA? If it weren’t for the US, China would be even closer to the Commonwealth, something that will manifest its self in positive ways for the people of Communist China. China has had a taste of the freedom that the Commonwealth offers through Hong Kong…the little red country that could !

Make no mistake, the catastrophic actions that occurred 11/09/01 could have been prevented. But we’ve seen through it. All of us, the left and the right, extreme and passive, Muslim and Christian. Even the KKK rejects the Bush Administrations ‘War in Iraq’(tm)
You’ve gotta give us this ; Aussies, within the context of our place within the Commonwealth have had a certain way of getting the us out of a squeeze throughout history…I present to you : Get up.

At this stage getup is .au only. Consider it a pilot program . Australia suffers a great many of the same issues that effect other commonwealth countries. The Bush Administration, has through FTA’s (Free Trade Areas, often referred to in the MSM as Free Trade Agreements, for obvious reasons of ’spin’) turned commonwealth nations against one and other in a fiscal sense. The Australian Governments involvement in paying Saddam Husain’s government 6 Million in bribes to win contracts…umm sorry guys. The way in which the US handled its Mad Cow(tm) program. In many ways our markets have been manipulated so it is in the best interests of the share holder to do the wrong thing by their community, this can only create instability? The AWB scandal was to undersell its competition at a ‘board room level’ and had nothing in fact to do with the Iraqi war.

It wont be long before there is Getup.nz and Getup.uk, or equivilent its no brainier really. Getup.org.au hasn’t lost a campaign yet. It is now in the process of getting our citizen, illegally imprisoned by the United States, David Hicks back home. The only law David broke was invented by the US post 11/09/01 to support his continued incarceration. Getup has made government take note of our collective discontent with Industrial Relations Reform. For those that don’t already know Australia has lost 150 years worth of workers right when the neo-conservatives seized control of our government here. By not letting government shy away from ‘issue topics’ get up has to a large extent done what the government should have done in the first place; Allowed constituents influence over legislation utilizing current IT Technology.

Getups principle is simple; ‘Popular’ style ‘micro-campaigns’ that address ‘topic issues’ from the ground up, regardless of race or creed. This approach has been successful on obtaining increased funding allocated to ABC.net.au, Australia’s equivalent of the BBC. Pro-choice legislation implamented on ‘abortion drug’ RU486. Main stream media call to action re; Australia’s impending US sanctioned Immigration Detention Laws. Laws that will allow corporations like Wackenhut Correctional Services to run Guantanamo Bay like facilities, outside common law and off shore. Australia is largely repulsed by the idea that centers like this could fly our flag and employ our citizens. Privatized prisons have been establishing here for some time now. All of Queensland’s prisons are run by one corporation, Australian Correctional Management, a Wackenhut corporation subsidiary. Queensland’s crime rate reflects this. Profiting by incarcerating citizens seems almost redundant, yet the state government allows this, no doubt a a condition of an FTA.

So lets Getup and get active.
