R.I.P. Van Nguyen
Van Nguyen, a 25 year-old convicted of trying to export let than half
a kilo of heroin out of Singapore was executed this morning (AEDT).
Before dawn Van was led to the gallows while his twin brother kept a
vigil until the end at Singapore´s notorious Changi Prison. A short
time later a van carrying Nguyen´s remains was seen leaving the prison
followed by a vehicle transporting officials from the Australian High
Commission, who it is reported formally identified the body.
Meanwhile in Australia church services and vigils are being held to
celebrate Vans life, and morn his loss. The priest conducting a
service in Nguyen´s home town, Melbourne says “We reject the power of
the state that destroys human life.”
