Bush’s next step to police state

Lincoln B. Justice, Seymour

George W. Bush was appointed in 2000 by one vote of the Supreme Court. In 2004 he was reappointed by the most fraud-filled election in American history through the use of electronic voting machines that are unprotected from computer hacking.

The events of Sept. 11, 2001 have been used as justification for the Bush Administration to start an unlimited war and assume almost unlimited power over the American people and other branches of government.

As the New York Times and Al Gore reported, since Sept. 11 "the Executive Branch has been secretly spying on large numbers of Americans for the last four years and eavesdropping on ‘large volumes of telephone calls, e-mail messages, and other Internet traffic inside the United States.’" This was done in total violation of laws passed by Congress.

In just months Bush has claimed that he has the right to incarcerate citizens without charging them with a crime, torture prisoners, unilaterally declare war, and spy on Americans.

Now George W. Bush is seeking to pack the Supreme Court with more judges that will further expand his dictatorial power. (Samuel) Alito is the final piece in the neocon puzzle; the cornerstone for an American police state.

If the Senate approves Alito, a man who believes in the ultimate power of the one leader over the many, our nation will doubtless become a totalitarian state with the president as king.
