British travelers face heavy surveillance
Under new measures, Britons who enter the United States are to have their fingerprints recorded and stored on an FBI database along with those of criminals.
The Observer reported on the move, which has outraged civil rights groups and opponents of intrusive surveillance.
Sources said the new plan will be initially implemented in 10 airports in popular destinations including New York, Washington and Miami.
Opponents of the plan say it will also make for longer waits for airport travelers.
Britons already have their credit card details and e-mail accounts inspected by U.S. authorities, following a deal between the EU and the Department of Homeland Security, the Observer said.
