There should be more limitations on when the government should investigate organizations. These odd investigations are an example of how fear is leading to irrational behavior. The groups that were being investigated did not have any intention to harm and mere just exercising their rights to protest. It is unfair that for unknown reasons these peaceful protestors were being observed like potential terrorists. It is important for the government for people to continue to have the freedom of speech and to protest, unless there is a definite concern. The terrorist attacked that occurred over seven years ago have created a state of fear in the government, but that concern should not give them the right to violate an individual’s rights. There should be a legitimate reason in order for the government to start an investigation, not just because the individual has an opinion that’s different from the majority. One of the privileges that American citizens have is the freedom to speak out issues that they believe in without the government censoring them. These rights that the founders of the United States believe in should not be ignored when it is convenient. This freedom of expression also allow for different opinions to develop. If a society was only to think one way, there would be no excitement in life since everyone would agree on issues. Another effect of having monotony would be that situations would not improve. History has shown that protests and difference of ideals have lead to the improvement of education, civil rights etc. The issue of investigators getting the wrong information about individuals shows how they have done poor research without getting their facts checked out. I hope that government uses their power rationally in order to effectively protect the country.
