Russian security forces yesterday shot dead three people suspected of organizing the suicide bombings in the Moscow metro. Security forces attempted to detain the three, but killed them after they fired back. “Unfortunately, we were not able to detain them alive. They offered fierce armed resistance and were destroyed,” Alexander Bortnikov, chief of the Federal Security Service, told President Dmitry Medvedev. Mr. Medvedev replied security forces should kill rebels who resisted. “Destroy those who show resistance. Show no mercy,” he said. Two female suicide bombers from Dagestan hit the Moscow metro on March 29, killing 40 people. Bombers struck again in the region yesterday, killing at least five people.
