UK activist faces 12 year sentence after RNC protests

September 10, 2008 5
Indymedia | Dave Mahoney was cycling to the grocery store with his girlfriend in Minneapolis on September 4th 2008, when an un-marked van pulled up, and two men wearing FBI shirts inexplicably bundled him into the back, and drove off.

Dave was part of the protesters assembled at the Republican National Convention in the City that week, and was there to peacefully remind America and the rest of the world of some of the atrocities, and in-justices millions of people endure everyday across the globe – many of which link directly to the actions & policy of the Republican party.

Instead, Dave’s become one of the victims… facing trumped up charges of Assault, and Conspiracy to Riot with a Furtherance of Terrorism; if convicted he could get up to 12 years in jail AND a $24,000 dollar fine…

ANY of Dave’s masses of friends both in America, and here in the UK would happily tell you the truth about Dave: He’s one of the gentlest, most caring, peaceful, level-headed, intelligent people you could ever imagine, working tirelessly for environmental charities and groups like Amnesty International. He would NEVER do any of the things he’s accused of, denies all the accusations vehemently, and can’t believe the charges levelled at him which are based on the flimsiest evidence imaginable.

Dave was due to return home to the UK on October 3rd, and so had very little money when he was arrested, everything he had went towards his extortionate $25,000 bail, and so his family & friends back here are desperately trying to raise much-needed money for him to just survive over there, and also to fund a decent lawyer – which he’ll inevitably need to take on organisations as deceitful and corrupt as the FBI and US Government.

For more information about Dave’s case, or to offer help (financial or otherwise) & advice please get in touch as soon as possible, by emailling helpdave@mail.com. Anything you can do to help us and Dave beat these bullshit charges would make a difference, and would be so gratefully appreciated.

America has fallen into a Police State. The RNC marked the end of freedom. I never beleived in a 1000 years this could happen, I was so blind. I have tried desperately to wake others….but amazingly many…many are complicit. As long as the NFL plays Sunday & Desperate Housewives is on, Freedom means nothing to them. The day will come when they are victims, then I would love to say "I told you so", but by that time it will be too late. The mere act of having thoughts can land you in prison. Obviously dissent is not allowed. America = July 4th 1776 – September 2nd 2008

    Seamus,

    All is not lost, yet.

You need to return to the situation America had in 1910 prior to the Federal Reserve act, that was the start of their takeover.

Also, let it be known that most of the rest of the world knows your unfortunate situation and you have many millions of allies.

Store food and water bro because its about to go from being cold takeover to being quite hot.

Your phone line has at least 35 V, learn how to charge up batteries using that because you may need it to power spy free communications.

Tool up with 7 inch Swibo boning knives and 2 kg killing axes as well as all the ammo & guns you can find for defence only (As US law allows you to do).

Don't do direct protests which involve being beaten up, do consider sabotage instead (do the cops really need those police cars or would they be better off at a scrap yard?)

Keep it peaceful as long as you can and remember to fight them on your ground, not theirs (Hit and run only, never direct engagement).

They have now lost the benefit of surprise and will most likely now lose.

Don't let them know you know.

    V

Great article. Dave is actually a friend of mine and it's fantastic to see people on his side. Hopefully we can get the Bucks Free Press writing about this and organise some more fundraising events. Please get in touch if you're in the High Wycombe area and have any ideas!

The police state is on here in Amerika, but SUPPOSEDLY this guy dropped a 50 lb. bag of sand from a highway overpass. The cops are SUPPOSED to have him on video and ID'd through a tattoo. Considering there have been numerous deaths in the midwest from people dropping rocks/objects/shooting from overpasses it's even worse. If the cops have him on tape he's f*cked, if they don't he will probably walk. As for the time, it's really doubtful the terrorism thing will stick, but him being a foreigner does not help his cause. I'd say he's got more to be worried about the U.K charging him under their guidelines if the US does have evidence. Oh, and this is why I tell people don't try direct action at these events. It's crazy in America, the senate will soon vote on a resolution that will in essence make it illegal to use "force", intellectual or physical, to promote social change! It was called H.R. 1959, check it out and see what's coming!
